JapanxReader: Tender Moments

The television screen in front of you flickered with images of the movie playing on the screen. It was late, very late, but you couldn't tell what time because the clock was too far away and your currently half-awake state made your eyes blurry and unfocused.

You checked to your side, finding your companion Kiku Honda still there like he had been earlier. Recently he had been overwhelmed with stress from his work, causing problems for him such as lack of any entertainment or even sleep. Being the concerned friend you were, you insisted on watching a good, relaxing movie with just the two of you, which he had agreed to after a surprisingly little amount of convincing. The only thing was that, after one movie, you ended up putting in yet another to watch, then another after that, and soon it had become just a flat out movie night.

You must've fell asleep during the current movie though, because you were at a completely different part than you had last remembered. Only a few minutes though, so it was all good. Kiku, on the other hand, didn't seem like he had done the same. He did look utterly exhausted though, and seemed to be making a failed effort to stay awake. His eyelids were closed enough that it barely looked as though he were awake, his head would repeated jerk upwards every few seconds from having almost fallen asleep then abruptly waking himself up again, and his shoulders hung in that limp manner that sleepy people always seemed to display. The question was why he didn't just let himself fall asleep if he was so tired? You didn't mind if he ended up crashing on your couch.

You rolled your head to face forward again, staring blankly at the wall and trying to decide whether to actually go to sleep or stay up and watch more movies with your barely-conscious friend. A few minutes of silent decision-making passed by, resulting in you deciding to just go to sleep. As soon as you had closed your heavy eyelids to do so, you felt something light rest on your shoulder. You opened your eyes and looked toward the source of the weight and saw a head of silky black hair come into your view. Looks like Kiku had finally fell asleep. On your shoulder too.

It was probably accidental, but it was still such a cute, unconscious act from him. You couldn't help but chuckle though. Wasn't it usually supposed to go that the girl fell asleep on the guys shoulder? You didn't care either way, it was adorable still. You shifted your body slightly to allow yourself some movement while still keeping his head rested comfortably on your shoulder, and bended over to look at him. Even in the limited lighting you could see his face, so relaxed and peaceful. There was nothing more calming then seeing someone sleep soundly in your opinion, especially when it was this always straight faced guy. Being one of the few people to see him in one of his most vulnerable and relaxed moments, it felt special somehow. Just seeing him asleep made you even more tired then you had been previously though.

You flinched when he suddenly buried his face into your arm slightly, snuggling up against you ever so gently and letting out a content sigh before going still again. You briefly adjusted once more and checked him again, seeing if he really was asleep or not, which it seemed that he was defiantly asleep as you had thought. Why must he be so adorable, especially when sleeping? It tampered with your still possible growing feelings for him, and you didn't need that. You didn't need to deal with having a romantic interest toward your best friend who more than likely wouldn't return your feelings, it just wouldn't happen.

Letting out a quiet sigh, you slouched into the seat of the sofa enough that you were comfortable and still had an undisturbed sleeping Kiku now snuggled up with your arm. You glanced at him and smiled, lifting a hand and gently stroking his straight, black hair. So soft and nice to the touch. You could pet his hair all day if only he would let you. The most he'd ever allowed was a few seconds before he would pull away.

Minutes passed by of you doing simple things like playing with his hair or brushing his skin, all while becoming even sleepier by the minute. Finally you reached the point of being too tired to keep your hand up anymore, and let it rest over your stomach as you relaxed yourself again. You looked ahead at the television screen once again, the title screen of the long since over movie showing. You lazily searched for the remote, finding it not too long after and pressing the power button. The screen switched off and you were left with only the pale glow of the moon outside for light now. You released a yawn and brought a hand over to Kiku again, brushing the bangs from his face and lightly kissing his forehead.

"Good night darling." You whispered to him before laying back and closing your eyes to finally sleep for the night. Just as you were slipping into the land of dreams, you felt Kiku begin to move again. A warm pair of lips grazed your cheek, giving you a soft kiss on the spot.

"Good night _____, I wish you pleasant dreams." Kikus gentle voice whispered in your ear. You felt a smile trace your lips as you dozed off, heart warmed and mind in the clouds, dreaming of lovely, tender moments together with Kiku.
