"Hey, are you okay?"
You blinked open your eyes at the sound of a soft voice right next to you. To your side was a young boy who seemed about your age, with sleek black hair and smooth brown eyes, looking at you with a vaguely worried expression. What had you been doing again? You remembered going outside earlier, and laying underneath a nice tree you'd found in an area just past the park so that you could watch the clouds. You must've fallen asleep after a while. You rubbed the sleep from your eyes for a moment, admiring the small ring on your finger you wore everyday that your parents had given you for a present a few years back when you'd finished.
"Yeah, I was just sleeping." You responded with a yawn, sitting up and turning slightly to face him. The boy gave you an odd look.
"Your sleeping outside?" He asked.
"Sure, why not?" You responded, raising an eyebrow at him. "Is there something wrong with it?"
"Hm, I guess not. I just don't see people doing it often, so it looks funny." He commented. The worry in his expression was gone, so he just looked emotionless now. You scowled at him
"Don't call me 'Funny', you don't even know me!" You huffed.
"Well then, lets get to know eachother. What's your name?" He asked you suddenly. His eyes were now showing a slight interest and amusement, even though he was still expressionless.
"_____."
"'_____'? Thats a strange name, Isn't that a foreign name? I thought we were in Japan."
You scowled some more at him. This boy was being rude!
"Yes it's a foreign name, I was born in (country name), and don't say my name is strange!" You retorted, crossing your arms and letting out another huff of annoyance. "What about you? What's your name?"
He gave you a small smile of amusement at your annoyance, then bowed his head slightly to you.  "My name is Kiku Honda, It's nice to meet you."
He seemed so polite at that moment, it was a little weird since he'd been teasing you and your name just a moment ago. You repeated his name in your head then smirked.
"'Kiku'? Isn't that usually a girls name?" You teased. He suddenly got extremely flustered, his face going a little red.
"I-It can be a boys name too!" He defended.
"Riiiiiiiiiiiight, Honda-chan~!" You laughed. Now it was his turn to be the annoyed one.
"Don't say that, I'm not a girl!"
"Honda-chan~!"
"Stop it!"
You toppled backwards onto the ground in a fit of laughter, tears starting to form in the corners of your eyes from the fit. Kiku just looked at you with an annoyed and upset expression.
"Please stop teasing me..." He said quietly, looking at the ground slightly. You stopped at this and stared at him, suddenly feeling bad for teasing him like you just did. You gave him a look of pity and patted his head lightly, making him look back at you with a slightly confused look.
"I'm sorry." You apologized, giving him a warm smile. He turned a little pink in the cheeks then gave you a shy smile.
"You really are strange."
You instantly got mad again, hitting his head with your hand that was already there and yelling at him, making him laugh as you did.

That was the day your friendship began.
--------
"Kiku-chan!"
Kiku turned around to face you as you ran over to him, giving you an annoyed look.
"I've asked you not to call me that." He told you as you reached him. You just gave him a big grin.
"But it's so fun to say! And I've gotten too used to it." You giggled in response. He just let out an annoyed sigh, knowing that he'd never get you to stop, and sat down underneath the tree you are at, with you plopping down right next to him. It was the tree you had first met at two years ago, and since that day it had become a regular place that the two of you would meet up to just spend time together. You and Kiku had become very close since the day you'd met, despite the fact that he was still a little rude towards you. It wasn't too bad though, you tolerated it. You had started calling him Kiku-chan for revenge, though now you'd become so used to calling him that that you couldn't really stop now.
It was quiet for a while after you'd settled down, though it usually was. Sometimes you talked, and sometimes you just sat next to eachother under that tree, enjoying nature and the company of another. You tended to daydream and contemplate certain things whenever it was quiet like this, often admiring your ring you owned as you did, and lately something had been on your mind.
"Say Kiku-chan, don't you think it seems odd? You know, the way we met?" You spoke up. He looked at you for a moment then turned his gaze back forward.
"Not really, I've never really thought about it though." He said in response.
"Hm, I just find it weird how people just meet. There's all sorts of ways to meet someone, and ours was just because I fell asleep and you were curious about it." You continued, looking up at the clouds as you spoke.
"It does seem a little odd now that you mention it..." He commented softly. There was another silence as you thought for a bit.
"Say, why did you come over to me that day anyways?" You questioned, suddenly curious. He was quiet for a moment, probley trying to remember why.
"I'm...not sure really. I was in the area and I saw you laying underneath this tree, and I just had a feeling that I should go see who you were. I didn't have a purpose really..." He responded quietly after a moment of thought. You looked at him for a bit, unsure exactly what to say. Just a feeling? You'd never really heard of something like that, not often anyways. Something came to your mind suddenly, and you spoke without really thinking first.
"Maybe it was fate."
Kiku faced you again, meeting your eyes that were already looking at him.
"Fate?"
"Yeah, like the Red String of Destiny, maybe we were fated to meet."
He just gave you a slightly confused look.
"What would we be fated for? Fated to be friends?" He questioned, clearly puzzled.
"Maybe, I'm not sure. Doesn't the Red String of Destiny usually connect destined lovers though?" You wondered aloud. You didn't know too much on the topic, but that's what you'd always thought. Kiku blushed as you said this, glancing away from you quickly.
"I think so.. B-But we're not lovers!" He stammered. You giggled at his reaction.
"Maybe we'll become lovers!" You suggested with a grin, making him blush even more.
"B-But we're not right now. We're too young to think about stuff like relationships and such anyways..." He muttered, attempting to hide his reddened face away from you. You smiled and sat back against the bark of the tree, thinking about what it'd be like to be Kikus lover in the future. It sounded wonderful to be honest.

That was the day you began to fall in love with him.
--------
Lacey snowflakes fluttered down from the puffy grey clouds hovering in the sky above you and Kiku as you sat underneath your usual tree. Time passed so quickly, it was hard to believe that the two of you had become friends only three years ago, it felt like you'd been friends for your entire lives.
The past year, since the day you'd talked about you possibly being fated to meet, you'd constantly began to think about what it's be like to be Kikus lover. To have his love, and him have yours. Everytime you thought about it, it always seemed so appealing, and the more you thought about it, the more you wanted it. You would start feeling things whenever you were with him or even thought about him, things like happiness and warmth. You would start noticing little things about him, like how beautiful his eyes were with their soothing brown hue and gaze that could calm you in an instant, and the way his black hair would flow so elegantly in a breeze. You loved things like this, and have been caught more than once just staring at him, watching his movements and actions. Lately he seemed to be acting kinder to you, and acting strange at times when you spent time together, like spacing off or getting flustered at the slightest touch from you. It always seemed so strange, and so unlike his usual self. You didn't mind though, if anything you absolutly loved it.
"Kiku-chan?" You got his attention as you sat under the tree. "Remember a year ago when we talked about how we could be connected through the Red String of Destiny?"
He thought for a moment before nodding. "Yes, I think I remember that conversation."
"Can I tell you something that might sound strange to you?"
"Of course you can."
You gave him a small smile before starting.
"We'll, it's been a year since then, and I've been thinking about that conversation constantly. Over the year, I've realized just how special you've become to me the whole time we've know one another, did you know this?" You turned to face him in the eyes. He was blushing but was actually looking at you too, not shying away from your gaze like he tended to do often.
"No, I was not aware." He responded quietly. You smiled at him again.
"I guess you never really tell when your special to someone unless they tell you themselves. It's true though, you're a very special person to me, and I think I've realized something from knowing this."
"What is it?" His voice was almost unaudible as he spoke. You paused for a moment, wondering if you were really going to tell him. You gave him another warm smile, then spoke with a very soft voice that surprised you slightly.
"I love you, Kiku-chan."
Kiku just stared at you with shock in his eyes, his face transitioning to a dark red shade as the words sunk in.
"W-What do you mean?" He stuttered after a moment.
"I love you. With all my heart. You've become very important and special to me, and I know we must be connected." You stated boldly. He just continued to stare at you, seeming unsure of what to say to you. You hadn't expected anything from him when you confessed, Kiku really didn't seem like the kind of person to know what to do in a situation such as this. You watched him with curiosity as he slowly leaned forward and suddenly pressed his lips to your forehead, giving you a kiss there. His lips felt warm and soft against your head, but only for a moment because he retreated rather quickly.
"Kiku-"
"I...I love you too...with all my heart..." He whispered. You felt your cheeks burn a little with a blush, but it wasn't a bad feeling at all. You felt happy now, very happy, knowing that he actually loved you too. You wrapped your arms around him and gave him a kiss on his forehead as well, then giving him one on his nose, then one on both cheeks, and finally giving him a very light peck on the lips. He was a deep scarlet now, moving his hand to touch every place you'd kissed him, while you just gave him a warm smile as you watched him do so. After a bit he gave you  a shy smile as well, taking your hands and intertwining his fingers with yours.
"So you really think we were fated to become lovers?" He asked quietly, breaking the brief silence that we had.
"I'm sure of it. When were older, we'll get married to eachother. You will be my husband, and I will be your wife. I know we will, it's fate." You responded softly to him. He smiled more warmly now.
"We will be married?"
"Yes, we will. You will ask my hand in marriage, and I will happily accept it and become your bride." You stated.
"What if I don't ask you to marry me?"
"Then I will ask you."
Kiku chuckled a little at this, but it wasn't in a teasing sort of way like it used to be.
"Well you won't have to. I promise ill do it when we're older. Ill buy you the most beautiful ring in the world, and ill give it to you and ask your hand in marriage. Ill become you husband, and you'll become my wife, and we'll be happy for the rest of our lives together, I promise." He told you with a smile. You giggled and wrapped him into a tight hug, him tensing up slightly before quickly relaxing and hugging you back lightly.
"Thank you, Kiku-chan. Ill be waiting for that day, no matter how long it takes. Ill wait forever if I have to, I promise."

That was the day you made your vows to one another.
--------
"I'm so sorry. While you were gone, your house...it caught on fire. The fire started in the kitchen, and it just all went down from there. Your parents were inside as well. they...they died inside. I'm so sorry this happened to you, it really is a horrible thing to have your parents die while you are still at young age. Your aunt has come to Japan to take you back to (Country name) to live with her, since you have no other relatives in this country. I'm so sorry for your loss."
You stared in disbelief at the fireman standing before you, telling you the horrible news. Behind him was your house, blackened, collapsed, and in ruins, with firemen going through it, putting out leftover fires and checking for who knows what. Why...had this happened?  Just a few hours ago you had been with Kiku, happy and oblivious. Oblivious that at that very same moment your life was slowly being torn away from you. Your home, your family, they were both gone now, and soon you'd be losing Kiku along with them. What had you done to deserve this? Had you been wrong when you claimed that you and Kiku were fated to be lovers in the future? God you didn't know anymore, you couldn't think straight any longer. You saw your vision going blurry with tears, and felt your legs give out, making you fall to the earth in sobs. You wanted to go back to that moment with Kiku, you wanted to happy again. Oblivious. Foolish to think everything would work out perfectly, that nothing could go wrong. You were wrong. Everything went wrong, in just a mere moment too.
"_____, it's time to go. Our flight will be here soon." You heard your aunts voice somewhere off in the distance, and felt a hand rubbing you back to calm you. You couldn't go yet. You had to say goodbye. You had to tell Kiku goodbye, apologize for not being able to keep your promise. You bolted up and sprinted off in the direction if his house, hearing your aunt cry out to you as you fled. Everything was black, you couldn't focus well at all, yet found your way somehow, leaving a trail of tears behind you as you ran. You saw his house come into view and ran faster until you were in front of his door, collapsing into sobs again while also trying to regain your breath. You pounded on the door two times, hardly able to lift your arm for very long. Someone answered the door after a second, and to your relief it was Kiku himself.
"_____?! What's wrong, what happened?!" He exclaimed at the sight of you, kneeling down and brushing the hair out of your damp face to look at you, panick and worry in his expression. It took a bit for you to calm down enough to speak.
"Kiku-chan, I'm...I'm leaving Japan." You said through tears, trying to wipe them away but just gaining more in return. He looked at you with such sadness in his eyes that you felt as if your heart had shattered completely.
"Why are you...why're you leaving?"
"My parents...they just died in a house fire, both of them. I have to go back to (country name) now, to live with my aunt.." You began to cry harder, unable to look Kiku in the eyes anymore. "I'm sorry Kiku-chan, now we can never be marri-"
"No, I'm going to marry you, I promised that I would." He protested, taking your shoulders and making you look at him directly. His eyes were full of determination now, though they still held sadness. You just stared at him, dumbfounded and a mess.
"But how? Ill be in (country name), you won't know where I live, how to find me, how would we get married If we can't find eachother?" You questioned, your sobs calming slowly.
"I'll find you. Ill go to (country name), and ill find you, even if I have to search the whole country. You will be my wife, I promise."
You stared at him, shocked. The idea was insane, impossible!
"Kiku, you won-"
"I WILL find you, don't say I won't, because I will. Ill do whatever it takes to be with you again because I love you, and a life without you would be empty. Ill find you again, all I ask is that you wait for me."
The way he spoke, you could tell he wasn't lying, and you knew you'd never be able to convince him other wise. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you towards him, holding you tightly in his arms as he hugged you. You hugged him back, clinging to him and crying into his chest. Eventually you pulled away from him, giving him a weak smile.
"Okay. I promise, ill wait for you. Ill wait forever if I have to, as long as we can find eachother again." You told him, looking down to your lap. You noticed your ring on your finger, the one your parents had given you, and got an idea. With a small smile, you pulled it off of your finger, took Kikus hand, and slipped it onto his, it's golden exterior glinting in the sun light. Kiku looked at it, examining the jewelry on his finger, then looking at you with a puzzled expression.
"It's my ring. My parents got it for me when I was born, and ever since I was able to put it on I've worn it everyday. It's very special to me, and I'm giving it to you for now. When you find me again, you can give it back to me, okay? This way you can always remember your promise and never forget about me." You explained, giving him a warm smile. He returned your smile and hugged you again.
"Even without the ring, I could never forget either one of those. I promise that the day I find you again ill return it to you. Just never forget about me or your promise." He whispered.
"I won't. Not ever."

That was the day that you were forced to part ways.

Yet hopeful that somehow you would find eachother once again.

Someday.
-----------
You blinked open your eyes, seeing an endless blue sky right above you. You rubbed your eyes and let out a groan. Why were you dreaming about the past? It had been nearly ten years since that day you had to leave, so why were you dreaming about it now? Was it because of where you were right now?
Ten years had passed since then. You'd worked your ass off for the past few years to get enough money to go back to Japan, because Japan had been a wonderful place to live and also because...well, you were still waiting. You figured if you went back to Japan, he'd be able to find you easier, or you could find him possibly. For some reason you'd began to doubt he would really come to (country name) and look for you, so you decided you'd go there and find him. Fortunately, all your hard work was not a waste. You'd gotten enough money to move back to Japan and start a new life there, and had finished school just a week ago, and was now happily living in Japan once again. Today was the first day you'd had to have some free time, and so of course you went to your favorite place in the world. Your tree. You were glad that the thing was still around, and not only that but had gotten much, much bigger. You're only guess was that it must've been a baby when you and Kiku used to hang out at it, though it made since now because it had been one if the smallest trees in the area. You'd layed down underneath it and taken a nap, just like the first day you and Kiku had met. Unfortunately, there was nobody by your side when you'd woken up. Why would there be though? You were sure Kiku had forgotten about the tree anyways. Even if he did though, You were sure he wouldn't recognize you. You'd changed a lot over the past ten years, both physically and mentally. Lots if relatives said that you'd become alot more mature, and whenever your friends saw a picture of you when you were younger they tryed to deny that it was you when you told them. It honestly worried you a lot, I mean, how would Kiku know it was you if he didn't even recognize you? Then again, you weren't even sure if he'd find you again. You let out a sigh of frustration and cleared your mind of the thoughts. Thinking these things would do you no good. You sat up, looking around at the surrounding area briefly, then stopped. You turned your head back around to the area on your left as something had caught your attention. Just a few feet away stood a man, a native Japanese. There was something about him that tugged at your memory a little, his smooth brown eyes and soft black hair making you instantly remember Kiku. Was that man...? No. It couldn't be, he looked too mature and handsome to be the same boy from your childhood. Lots of Asians looked similar too, not to be offensive. The man was staring at you, looking shocked and puzzled. Eventually the expression faded away from him, and he walked over to the tree, sitting himself down on the side of it, then staying there, as if he were waiting for someone. You continued to stare at him, compelled by his features. He reminded you so much of Kiku.
"Hello." You spoke up to him, making him turn to face you.
"Hello." He introduced back. You smiled at him.
"Are you waiting for someone?" You asked, shifting over so that you were sitting next to him. He hesitated for a moment.
"I suppose you could say that. Are you?"
"Hm, somewhat. I was mostly just taking a nap." You replied. He chuckled a little, puzzling you.
"What is it?" You questioned.
"Oh nothing, that just reminds me of the way I'd met someone very special to me a few years ago. I'd found her sleeping under a tree and felt the urge to meet her, and we became friends from then on." He commented. Your eyes widened in shock. That was how you and Kiku had met!
"It was actually at this very same tree. Quite a coincidence, isn't it?"
Indeed it was! Or was it really just a coincedence? You gave a weak smile.
"Y-Yeah, very coincidental. Say, what's your name?" You asked hesitantly, your heart pounding.
He smiled and bowed his head to you slightly.
"My name is Kiku Honda, it's nice to meet you."
You felt your heart stop all together. Was this really him?! Or was it a massively insane coincidence? Only one way to really know. You glanced down at his hands, examining them briefly. A golden ring. Your ring. You suddenly felt as if time had stopped all together, your heart beating so fast you thought it would explode. It...it was him! The Kiku from your past, the Kiku you had had to leave, the Kiku you had loved so dearly. He was here! Except, he was showing no signs of remembering you.
"Miss? Is something wrong?" His voice broke into your thoughts. You realized you'd been staring at him and became flustered.
"N-N-Nope! Y-You just remind me if someone I knew once!" You stammered, laughing nervously. He looked at you puzzled for a moment then smiling again.
"Ah, I see. What is your name?"
You hesitated for some reason. If you told him your name, he might recognize you again. You hoped he would anyways.
"_____."
He stared at you for awhile, seeming shocked. Your excitement built up more and more as you waited for him to speak again. Remember me, remember me, remember me, remember me! The phrase repeated over and over in your head as you waited. Eventually he smiled again at you again.
"That's a very nice name, _____-san. The girl I mentioned earlier had the same name actually, isn't that ironic?"
You felt your heart shatter. He didn't recognize you. Not one bit. Why didn't you just tell him it was you?! That you were that girl he was referring to?! It'd be a hell of a lot simpler! Yet, a part of you wanted him to be the one to figure out, not you having to tell him. You just put on a smile, ignoring your sadness at him not recognizing you.
"Very much. You sure do speak very highly of this girl, who was she?" You asked. You wanted to hear what he said about you. He sat back against the tree with a very happy smile on, slipping into nostalgia.
"She was the most amazing person I'd ever known. I'd met her underneath this tree, and we would spend time together everyday here. Those were the most happiest moments of my life, and it wasn't long before I fell in love with her. She spoke to me about the Red String if Fate one day, and claimed that we were connected by it. I honestly believed it, with everything that ever happened to me around her. She confessed to me a year later, and we promised eachother we would be wed in the future, as silly as it sounds. Unfortunately, she had to move back to (country name) because of a fire causing her parents death, but I vowed to find her again someday. I've been saving up to go to (country name) the past few years, and I intend to find her, just like I promised. Though everyday I find myself coming to this tree, as if it were calling me, as if she would appear here again, just like she always did. I'm just...I'm just scared that she might've forgotten me..." He finished, sadness showing in his expression. Your face was burning with a blush now. He never forgot his promise after all? You felt so...happy. You reached out and patted his head, making him look up at you with his gorgeous brown eyes. You gave him a warm smile, looking him straight in the eyes.
"I could never forget you, Kiku-chan."
Kikus eyes widened in shock, just staring at you as your words sunk in. You chuckled a little.
"Thank you for keeping your promise."
Kiku slowly reached out and tackled you into a tight hug, surprising you slightly.
"I can't believe it...I found you, I really found you! I'm so sorry I didn't recognize you, you'd just become so...beautiful, and mature, I didn't think it could be you." He whispered, his voice betraying how truely happy he was. You felt so happy you could die, now that you'd found eachother again. He pulled away and took his hand, sliding the golden ring off his finger then taking your hand and sliding it back into yours, then holding it in his.
"Someday I'll get you an official ring to put on, I promise." He assured you. You grinned at him, nodding your head with an okay. He smiled back, then turned pink in the cheeks, glancing away slightly but still smiling.
"What is it?" You asked, moving your head to try and look him in the eyes again.
"Just...I'm just considering doing something I should've done ten years ago." He responded.
"Doing what?" You questioned curiously, moving closer to him. He continues to smile and contemplate, then looked at you again, blushing a little more.
"This."
You felt him wrap his arms around your waist and pull you closer to him, then press his lips to yours, giving you a very sweet, passionate kiss. You were stunned for a moment, then wrapped your arms around his neck and deepened the kiss, feeling endless joy and warmth surround you once again.

That was the day you found eachother once again.

The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. The magical cord may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.
One of four fanfictions I typed out while I was grounded for a month XD I've always been interested in the Red string of Fate, so I used it in a story! :D And by the way, the name Kiku really is most commonly used for girls. Don't believe me, go look it up. Anyways, hoped you liked this, and feedback is definatly appreciated!

Only the story belongs to me, everything else does not.
